Welcome Back, College Life!

Hello!

My super-duper-long holiday will be over very soon. Yes, I'm going back to college life tomorrow morning. It is time to say hello to so-called daily college routines. Time to say  "Hey, see you, later!" to loads of comics or DVDs. No more sleeping all day long, or doing things I like whenever I want. You're asking me what I'm feeling right now, no? The answer is, frankly, I'm feeling awkward. Exactly, the feeling between excited and sad. Nevertheless, I realize that this is what we call "life". There are times when we have to move our ass out of our comfort zones, right? Unless we want our lives to be something very very flat. You know, it's like, life will lose its meaning if we get stuck up in comfort zones.

Speaking of which, this long holiday has caused some impacts on myself, especially my brain (exaggerated) haha. But yeah, I often analogize the brain as a knife or a blade. If the knife is not sharpened frequently, it will dull. And I don't want that to happen to my brain, of course. Well, I hope everything's gonna be back to normal as soon as I set my feet on the floor of the college building.

Thanks a bunch to the warm-hearted guy who gave me a new watercolor set on April 6th. :3

Happy, happy, finally my brush set met its partner. Hohoho...

Anyhow, I promise myself not to open the package until April 17th, or else I will spend a lot of time painting (okay this may sound rather hyperbolic; as if I were good at painting, whereas the fact is I'm not, hahaha!) and forget my plan to focus on one-very-important thing. :)

Well, I'm not that good at digital drawing nor editing.
I only understand Photoshop basics, hence I always choose to use Adobe Photoshop to digitally color my drawings instead of other softwares. That's the only choice I have!

Kimmy The Kitten

Seperti yang pernah saya bicarakan pada posting-an sebelumnya, sekarang saya memelihara kucing lagi. Hehe... Namanya Kimmy. Sama seperti Michan dan Ichan, Kimmy bukanlah kucing ras galur murni. Ia termasuk ke dalam jenis kucing kampung. Entah kenapa, saya lebih suka "wajah" kucing kampung dibanding dengan wajah kucing jenis lain. Selain perawatannya yang tidak ribet, kucing kampung juga tidak terlalu pemalas dan menyenangkan untuk diajak bermain. 

Kimmy ditemukan adik saya di tempat latihan aikido di kampusnya, UI Depok. Saat ditemukan, Kimmy yang masih berusia kurang dari satu bulan itu sedang berusaha menyelamatkan dirinya dari serangan seekor anjing lapar. Karena iba, adik saya yang juga menyukai kucing memutuskan untuk membawa Kimmy pulang. Sebelum pulang, ia mampir dulu ke sebuah pet shop.  Kimmy pun dibelikan kandang, makanan, serta susu untuk kucing.

Pertama kali saya bertemu Kimmy, ia begitu mungil dan kurus. Ia juga sering bersin-bersin dan sakit mata. Sekarang, sudah satu bulan Kimmy tinggal di rumah kami. Kesehatannya semakin baik serta sudah tidak kurus lagi. Senangnya! Semakin hari, ia semakin gesit dan lincah. Ia sangat senang bermain dengan menerkam, berlari, melompat, menggigit, dan mencakar. Hal tersebut sangatlah wajar dan merupakan bagian dari play behavior atau perilaku bermain yang biasa ditunjukkan oleh seekor anak kucing. Apalagi, Kimmy merupakan kucing jantan. Perilaku bermain ini berperan penting dalam perkembangan mereka, karena merupakan awal perkembangan untuk bersosialisasi maupun berkelahi di masa dewasa nanti. Hehe. Lucu, ya?

Menemukan cat air tua nganggur yang sudah mengeras. 

Kucing

Dulu, saya sempat memelihara kucing perempuan bernama Michan Maruchan beserta anaknya yang bernama Michan Marichan alias Ichan (namanya tidak kreatif nih, hehe). Keduanya sempat tinggal di rumah saya selama bertahun-tahun.  Michan wafat mendahului Ichan akibat sebuah kecelakaan. Sementara Ichan yang telah tinggal selama lebih dari satu dekade, menghilang secara tiba-tiba. Sempat dengar mitos, kalau kucing sudah lama tinggal dengan sebuah keluarga, ia tidak akan menampakkan kematiannya di hadapan keluarga tersebut. Boleh percaya atau tidak.

Ichan sudah seperti anggota keluarga kami. Selain suka makan ikan dan daging seperti kucing lainnya, Ichan juga suka makan makanan manusia. Ia suka snack, gorengan, dan makanan manusia lainnya. Kalau saya sedang ingin curhat, Ichan seringkali duduk manis, menatap saya, seolah-olah ia mengerti apa yang saya ucapkan. Tingkah lakunya pun semakin hari semakin "manusiawi". Ia menonton televisi. Ia juga suka membangunkan keluarga kami saat sahur, khusus di bulan Ramadhan. Ia juga pernah berusaha membuka pintu dengan meraih gagang pintu. Ketika saya suruh diam, ia diam. Ketika saya suruh duduk, ia duduk. 

Seringkali terbersit dalam benak saya, si Ichan ini hewan atau manusia, sih? Or is she actually a human trapped inside a cat's body? Boleh deh menganggap saya bego atau apa. Hehe... Penafsiran saya terhadap Ichan ini agaknya sedikit terpengaruh oleh antropomorfisme. Dalam Ilmu Kelakuan Hewan, antropomorfisme ialah menganggap bahwa organisme (hewan) memiliki kemampuan seperti manusia. Biasanya, semakin kita merasa mengenal suatu organisme (hewan), maka semakin kuat pula kecenderungan menafsir perilaku hewan secara antropomorfisme tersebut. Hehehe.

Pada dasarnya, perilaku hewan itu terdiri atas perilaku sederhana dan perilaku kompleks. Perilaku sederhana ialah perilaku yang dibawa sejak lahir sehingga tidak perlu dipelajari lagi, salah satunya adalah insting. Sementara itu, perilaku kompleks adalah perilaku yang diperoleh dengan cara dipelajari, yaitu perilaku  learning dan reasoning. Dan ya, saya pikir, perilaku Ichan yang "kemanusia-manusiaan" ini merupakan bentuk perilaku yang ia pelajari dari manusia, seiring dengan perkembangan susunan syarafnya.

Semenjak kepergian Ichan, saya menjadi trauma untuk memelihara kucing lagi. Kehilangan seekor kucing kesayangan itu rasanya betul-betul tidak enak. Mereka yang merupakan pecinta kucing pasti mengerti ini. Saya pun memutuskan untuk tidak memelihara kucing lagi. Sampai akhirnya beberapa minggu yang lalu, adik saya membawa seekor anak kucing ke rumah. Sulit sekali rasanya menahan diri. The kitten's too cute to ignore. And I realized that a relationship between a girl and a cat has just literally started...

Papercraft!

Have you guys heard it before? It’s definitely something made from paper of course, hehe. Well, just in case you forget it, papercraft is a form of crafting in which paper is used to create 3D objects such as models or sculptures.

Hm… making 3D objects with paper? Sounds like origami. So, what’s the difference? Okay, I tell you what, unlike origami, papercraft involves cutting up paper or cardboard and gluing it back together, although some folding and bending may be involved.

Nowadays, various paper craft patterns are easy to obtain via the internet. Just download it, print it out, and voila! You will have already got a ready-to-build papercraft pattern! For people who do love this crafting, they tend to choose to make their own patterns. Actually, two most important things in making paper toys are tenacity and thoroughness, especially if the pattern is very complex.

Things you need to make a papercraft are:

- paper (260-300 g)

- cutter and scissors

- glue (I recommend you UHU glue stick or Fox glue)
